Turie T. Small Elementary School

Turie T. Small Elementary is an exciting project encompassing many facilities, including 850 student stations, administration offices, a cafeteria, a kitchen, a media center, mechanical rooms, and classroom spaces. In addition to these essential components, the campus will feature a convenient parent drop-off/pick-up loop with ample parking, a bus loop with parking, stormwater retention systems, a state-of-the-art physical education pavilion, and vibrant playgrounds. With all these incredible features, Turie T. Small Elementary eagerly anticipates opening its doors in the fall of 2024.

Originally built in 1954, the existing Turie T. Small Elementary School desperately needed upgrades and renovations. However, a new, energy-efficient Turie T. Small Elementary is now in progress, with construction behind the current school and Campbell Middle School. This strategic approach ensures that the students' learning is not disrupted during the construction phase. Not only that, but once the new school is completed, it will also serve as a community revitalization project, offering recreational space, medical and dental services, social programs, and even adult education opportunities. This multi-faceted project is about providing a modern and efficient learning environment and enhancing the community as a whole.

The Challenge

ICON-BIM encountered two significant obstacles during the Turie School project. The first involved the extensive time required to decipher and comply with the Florida Plumbing Code specifically for this project. The second challenge arose from the time-consuming process of adapting to Trimble Sysque for fabrication modeling within Revit.

The Solution

ICON-BIM successfully conquered these obstacles by maintaining open and efficient communication with the skilled team at W.W. Gay Mechanical.

Results

ICON-BIM completed the scope of detailing work ahead of schedule and accomplished it flawlessly without any need for revisions to the contract drawings throughout the entire duration of their detailing schedule for this project.
