After working in a few different industries, including some smaller construction jobs, Cory decided he was ready for a career. He joined the union in 2005 after his brother became a member and worked his way through to journeyman. With an interest in computer software and a degree in game simulation and programming, he quickly realized that detailing was the perfect combination of his construction experience and computer knowledge.
Figuring out how to streamline processes and make things work better keeps Cory motivated and interested in his work. He likes to identify pain points in processes and learn how to train people to overcome them. With his team, he tries to keep things light and fun. Projects can get overwhelming at times so there’s no point in adding any additional stress to the day-to-day if you don’t have to.
How long have you been in the construction industry?
Over 20 years
Which union are you affiliated with?
UA Local 525 in Las Vegas, Nevada
What problem would you love to solve for the construction industry?
I would love for more contractors to recognize the value union detailers bring to projects. The hands-on knowledge of installation, functionality, state and federal building codes and US construction practices simply can’t be matched by overseas contractors.
What’s your favorite project you’ve worked on?
The Raiders Stadium in Las Vegas. It was a great learning experience and it’s a building I get to see every day.
If you could live anywhere in America, where would it be?
Hawaii. It’s the perfect temperature and the most tropical place in the States.
